Project origination, drawings and designs

Mr and Mrs B approached us in late summer of 2012 and asked us to give them some ideas for transforming their small and very dated cottage kitchen.

The original layout had never worked well and although the room was very small, we were able to come up with a design that was much more user friendly by moving the sink and oven, as well as making the most of the cupboard space available. A large utensil drawer was situated directly beneath the hob and a double pull out pan drawer below that.

Two small pull out cupboards either side of the hob (housed within the overmantel) were designed to store oils and spices for cooking.

A separate bank of tall units at the end of the room were designed to house an integrated oven and microwave with additional storage above and below, flanked by two larder cupboards either side.

Once the design had been agreed and colours and handles chosen, production began in autumn 2012 in our workshop.

Final fitting and end product

Mrs B had decided to have granite worktops, and had chosen ‘Jurapano Sol’, which has a mixture of colours within the material ranging from pale yellow to deep reddish brown. She also wanted a glass splash back behind the hob with a warm colour to complement the worktop.

The hand made furniture was completed about a month later was fully set up in our workshop ready for our client to view before installation.

In November 2012, we removed the old kitchen and fitted the new one. Templates were taken for the worktops and the sink and dishwasher were plumbed in during the first week. There is always a gap of between 8 – 12 days between templates being taken and the finished worktops being delivered. During this time we always make sure that the sink is plumbed in for the customer to use (with temporary worktops) for minimum disruption.

Ten days later the worktops were fitted and the kitchen fit was completed.
